Seniors’ Home & Yard Maintenance Program

Role Overview

The Seniors’ Home and Yard Maintenance Program is designed to help Yukon Seniors, elders and those with disabilities remain independent in their existing homes for as long as possible. The program does this by operating a local worker/volunteer referral service. The benefit to seniors is access to reliable and affordable help with household and maintenance chores that they find difficult or impossible to perform themselves.

Responsibilities

We have clients who need help with everything from shovelling snow, mowing the lawn, assisting with garden care, minor home maintenance, housecleaning, and organizing.

Experience and Skills

Experience in house cleaning, shovelling snow, mowing lawns, tending gardens, minor home maintenance
Skills: Trustworthiness, reliability and an interest in helping seniors

Estimated Time Commitment

Hours are as required and the client will try to work around your availability. Hours can range from 1 to 3 hours while other clients may require return visits. We try to match volunteer/worker with senior’s location and/or subdivision.

Volunteer Recognition or Benefits

For the senior/client: access to occasional assistance with tasks can provide the necessary support for an individual to maintain independent living in their own home rather than moving.
For the Worker/Volunteer: Making a difference in someone’s life.
The recommended rate is $30.00 per hour; however, the price for each job is negotiated directly between the senior/client and the worker.
