Task description
REB members review research involving human participants in accordance with the Tri-Council Policy Statement on Ethics in Human Research. Community members are needed to represent the perspectives of potential research participants and to provide diversity in the viewpoints of the REB. This role does not require any academic background or qualifications. The community member must be independent of Yukon University and should not have any affiliation as a current or recent student, instructor, or staff member. You will need to be able to attend one meeting each month. These are held on a weekday from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. There are approximately 10 regularly scheduled meetings per year (September to June). Meeting preparation time is estimated to be 1-2 hours. Meetings are held in Whitehorse but can be attended remotely through Zoom.

• Comfortable using email and reading documents online
• Willing to learn and follow policies and guidelines
• Willing to read materials related to ethics in research
• Ability to respond quickly to requests for review
• Not involved in work as a researcher
• Previous experience as a research participant is desirable but not essential

Time commitment
Meetings are held once a month on a weekday. Time required for reviewing materials and attending meetings is about 2-5 hours each month.
