Territorial Technical Committee Lead – IT Office Software Applications

Task Description

The Territorial Technical Committee lead is responsible for organizing and overseeing the competition at the Yukon Territorial Skills Competition (TSC). This role involves competition design, setup, supervision, judging coordination, and tear-down while ensuring a fair, professional, and safe environment for competitors.

This role is part of the Territorial Technical Committee (TTC), a group of skilled professionals who support the planning and execution of TSC events.

Skills Yukon relies on our Territorial Technical Committee (TTC) members, who are local volunteer tradespeople and skilled professionals that are appointed to help facilitate programming throughout the year and specific competitions during the Territorial Skills Competition. Preparation for the skills competitions is ongoing, including initial recruitment of technical committee members, competition planning and implementation. TTC and NTC members need to be available during the competition dates for set-up, to run the competition area and to tear down and clean up after the competition.

Expertise in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Commitment to creating an engaging and fair competition environment.
Knowledge of teaching, training, or competition standards is an asset.

Responsabilities

1. Competition Design
Develop a Competition Scope Document outlining rules, objectives, tasks, and tools for the competition.
Create theory and practical tests that assess skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Tasks will cover file management, problem-solving, and project execution using these software applications.
Identify required equipment and software (e.g., computers, licensed Microsoft Office).
2. Site Planning and Setup
Design the competition area layout to include workstations and equipment.
Submit a Field Level Risk Assessment by 4:00 PM on the day prior to the competition.
Supervise the setup and tear-down of the competition area, ensuring all materials are ready.
3. Competitor and Judge Coordination
Assist SCY in recruiting post-secondary competitors from schools, colleges, and organizations.
Hold an orientation meeting on competition day to review rules, safety protocols, and expectations.
Recruit and train judges, ensuring they understand the scoring criteria for each software application.
4. Competition Supervision
Monitor competitors to ensure adherence to rules and safety protocols.
Provide clarification on project instructions when necessary.
5. Judging and Scoring
Develop consistent and fair judging criteria based on SCY’s Competition Rulebook.
Ensure scoring reflects competitors’ ability to use the full functionality of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Validate and compile scores, ensuring clear winners are determined for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.
6. Sponsorship and Prizes
Collaborate with SCY to secure sponsorships for the competition.
Select and arrange prizes such as tech accessories, software licenses, or professional tools valued at $100 for top competitors.
7. Post-Competition Tasks
Submit finalized scores and results to SCY by 9:00 AM the next day.
Attend the award ceremony to present medals to winners.

Time Commitment

Preparation: 2–12 hours in the months/weeks leading up to the competition
Setup Day: 1–2 hours
Competition Day: 8 hours
Award Ceremony: 2–3 hours
