The Territorial Technical Committee lead is responsible for organizing and overseeing the competition at the Yukon Territorial Skills Competition (TSC). This role involves competition design, setup, supervision, judging coordination, and tear-down while ensuring a fair, professional, and safe environment for competitors.
This role is part of the Territorial Technical Committee (TTC), a group of skilled professionals who support the planning and execution of TSC events.
Skills Yukon relies on our Territorial Technical Committee (TTC) members, who are local volunteer tradespeople and skilled professionals that are appointed to help facilitate programming throughout the year and specific competitions during the Territorial Skills Competition. Preparation for the skills competitions is ongoing, including initial recruitment of technical committee members, competition planning and implementation. TTC and NTC members need to be available during the competition dates for set-up, to run the competition area and to tear down and clean up after the competition.
Journeyperson certificate or Red Seal in Hairstyling
Professional expertise in hairstyling, including hands-on experience and knowledge of industry trends.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to create engaging and fair competition tasks.

1. Competition Design
Develop a Competition Scope Document detailing the objectives, rules, tasks, and required tools and materials for the hairstyling competition.
Create theory and practical tests to assess hairstyling techniques, including instructions, diagrams, and supporting materials.
Prepare a list of equipment and materials needed for the competition, such as mannequins, styling tools, and products.
2. Site Planning and Setup
Plan the competition site layout, including workstations, mirrors, and electrical needs.
Submit a Field Level Risk Assessment by 4:00 PM on the day prior to the competition.
Oversee the setup and tear-down of the hairstyling competition area, ensuring all materials and equipment are in place.
3. Competitor and Judge Coordination
Assist SCY in recruiting post-secondary competitors by engaging with hairstyling schools, salons, and industry professionals.
Conduct an orientation meeting on competition day to review rules, safety protocols, and expectations with competitors.
Recruit and brief judges, ensuring they understand the competition criteria and scoring guidelines.
4. Competition Supervision
Supervise competitors during the event, ensuring adherence to competition rules and safety standards.
Act as the primary contact for competitors and judges throughout the competition.
5. Judging and Scoring
Develop fair and consistent judging criteria in alignment with SCY’s Competition Rulebook.
Hold a judges’ meeting at least 1 hour before the competition to ensure consistency in scoring.
Validate and compile final scores, ensuring no ties for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place.
6. Sponsorship and Prizes
Collaborate with SCY to identify sponsors who can provide hairstyling tools, products, or equipment.
Select suitable prizes for the top competitor (e.g., professional styling tools, gift cards, or salon-related items valued at $100).
7. Post-Competition Tasks
Submit finalized scores and results to SCY staff by 9:00 AM the following day.
Attend the award ceremony to present medals to the winners.
