YRQ Carmacks Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the general operation of this checkpoint. It is a vital position that requires one to be familiar with this important stopover in the race, effective in organizing others, to multitask and to address any issues that arise. It includes set up and take down, volunteer recruitment and check in, and being available to answer any questions from numerous people.
-Ongoing email correspondence with potential volunteers, other race coordinators and board members from March to June
-Assign volunteers from the database, provide email confirmation, and recruit more volunteers if needed
-Inventory supplies for Carmacks at least two weeks before the race, allowing time for any repairs or purchase of new materials
-Review and print necessary forms and any applicable administrative paperwork
-Ensure all necessary equipment is in the equipment trailer bound for Carmacks
Set up:
-Arrive in Carmacks early Wednesday evening to secure Checkpoint area
-Identify work areas and liaise with Coalmine Campground Manager
-Meet with volunteers for check in, hand out any necessary equipment
-Be available to oversee and/or answer questions from volunteers, the general public, spectators, paddlers, and safety boat operators
-Address any issues or problems as they arise
-Check in with the Communications Centre once per hour
-Assist with and oversee take down
-Complete a final report and submit to the BOD
