Territorial Technical Committee Lead – 2D Computer Animation

Task Description

The Territorial Technical Committee lead is responsible for organizing and overseeing the 2D Animation competition at the Yukon Territorial Skills Competition (TSC). This role involves competition design, setup, supervision, judging coordination, and tear-down while ensuring a fair, professional, and safe environment for competitors.

This role is part of the Territorial Technical Committee (TTC), a group of skilled professionals who support the planning and execution of TSC events.

Skills Yukon relies on our Territorial Technical Committee (TTC) members, who are local volunteer tradespeople and skilled professionals that are appointed to help facilitate programming throughout the year and specific competitions during the Territorial Skills Competition. Preparation for the skills competitions is ongoing, including initial recruitment of technical committee members, competition planning and implementation. TTC and NTC members need to be available during the competition dates for set-up, to run the competition area and to tear down and clean up after the competition.

Skills Needed

Relevant work and education experience in 2d computer animation.
Project Management: Proficiency in managing multiple tasks, deadlines, and resources.
Attention to Detail: Ensuring rules, guidelines, and judging criteria are clear and comprehensive.
Animation Knowledge: Understanding the basics of 2D animation techniques, tools, and workflows to set relevant guidelines and evaluate entries effectively.
Software Proficiency: Familiarity with animation software like Adobe Animate to relate to participants’ work.
Judging Criteria Development: Knowledge of storytelling, character design, and visual appeal to define evaluation metrics.
Clear Instructions: Writing and verbal communication skills to articulate competition rules and expectations.

Responsabilities

1. Competition Design
Develop a Competition Scope Document outlining the competition’s purpose, rules, required tools and materials, and evaluation criteria.
Design theory and practical tests, including instructions, related diagrams, and supporting documents.
Prepare a comprehensive list of required equipment and materials for the competition site.
2. Site Planning and Setup
Develop a competition site plan, identifying space, equipment, and power requirements.
Submit a Field Level Risk Assessment by 4:00 PM on the day prior to the competition.
Oversee setup and tear-down of the competition area, including arranging equipment and organizing materials.
3. Competitor and Judge Coordination
Assist SCY in recruiting post-secondary competitors by leveraging industry connections.
Conduct an orientation meeting on competition day to review rules, safety, and expectations.
Recruit and train judges, ensuring they are familiar with scoring criteria and rules.
4. Competition Supervision
Supervise competitors and ensure adherence to competition rules and safety standards.
Act as a point of contact for competitors and judges during the event.
5. Judging and Scoring
Develop fair, consistent judging criteria in line with the SCY Competition Rulebook.
Oversee scoring and ensure judges meet a minimum of 1 hour before the event to align on standards.
Validate and compile final scores, ensuring no ties for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place.
6. Sponsorship and Prizes
Collaborate with SCY to identify sponsors for tools, materials, or equipment.
Select competition-appropriate prizes (e.g., animation tools, software, or gift cards valued at $100).
7. Post-Competition Tasks
Submit finalized scores and results to SCY staff by 9:00 AM the following day.
Attend the award ceremony to distribute medals to winners.

Time Commitment

2-12 hours preparing in the months/weeks leading up to the competition,
1-2 hours on set up day,
8-10 hours on competition day,
and 2-3 hours for the award ceremony.
