Thank you for your interest in joining the Yukon Conservation Society (YCS) Board!
Since 1968 YCS has been advocating for responsible and sustainable land use, ensuring the protection of biodiversity and ecosystem health for generations to come. Use your voice! Be part of the conservation conversation.

YCS is looking for board members with diverse skills and experience – and a passion for conservation! We specifically welcome people of diverse cultural backgrounds and people from communities outside Whitehorse to apply. Nominees for the board must be members of the Society, and must be normally resident in the Yukon. The general membership will elect the board at the AGM on April 10. Membership can be acquired by emailing [email protected].

Skills Needed

Specific skills and experience that would be helpful to the Board at this time include:
● Knowledge of accounting and/or financial management
● Human resources experience and skills
● Knowledge of energy systems, fish & wildlife management, mining practices or climate change science
● Advocacy skills
● Fundraising experience
● IT/Computer skills
● Experience working with First Nations
● Reconciliation within conservation
● Team building skills
● Leadership skills

Responsibilities

Responsibilities
– Attend monthly meetings
– Approximately 5 – 10 hours per month in between (reading and correspondence, serving on internal committees)
– Provide input on board initiatives
– Bring your ideas and enthusiasm!

Time Commitment

The board meets monthly, from 1.5 to 2 hours, with 5 to10 hours reading and emailing between meetings. Each board member is expected to participate in a governance committee (supporting the functioning of the board) and/or a program committee supporting staff in an area of interest (eg. mining, energy, land use planning) Executive members may spend more time on communication.
