Thomson Centre is Looking for a Volunteer to operate our small Corner Store Operator one day a week (ideally Wednesday or Thursday between 10 and 3pm, but open to other arrangements). The Corner Store sells a variety of snacks, hygiene and personal items to residents living in the long term care facility.
Socialize with residents
Follow Opening and Closing Procedures
Serve customers in a polite and courteous manner
Maintain confidentiality
Receive cash and make change
Record sales
Note when stock is low and record items needed on shopping list
Balance cash at beginning and end of shift
Assist with pricing when necessary
Ability to handle cash and make change
Good interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently
Comfort with numbers & using a calculator
Detail-oriented record keeping
Understanding of Residents with cognitive and physical limitations
Reliability
Patience
Ability to communicate well with diverse populations
Willingness to accept supervision
2.5 hr shift weekday 1x/week
Personal fulfillment from serving Residents, staff and the general public
