Intended for volunteers based in Whitehorse who are over the age of 19 and are hoping to mentor adult learners at Yukon Learn. These volunteers will be interested in supporting mentees to enter a specific industry and/or career or to improve upon skills related to their mentee’s current job.

Task description

We are looking for mentors!
We are building our mentorship program to support those looking to follow a specific career path or those who are employed in a role and would like to further develop skills specific to that role.
If you are enthusiastic about your career or helping individuals develop their skills for the workplace, we would love to hear from you!
Our current mentors come from a diverse range of careers and educational backgrounds from archaeologists to small business advisors.

Mentors will meet with mentees for one to two hours on a weekly basis. These meetings will focus on discussions and activities that support your mentee in achieving their career-related goals!

19

Skills needed

• Enthusiasm for your own career
• A talent for communicating and explaining ideas and concepts
• Ability to plan sessions in line with your mentee’s goals
• Capacity to work with a wide range of mentees from diverse backgrounds
• Ability to be encouraging and supportive
• Completion of a vulnerable sector check with the RCMP

Responsibilities

• Commit to at least one hour of mentoring a week
• Plan and deliver mentoring sessions

• Communicate with Yukon Learn staff
